Ken is the self-appointed co-op 'Watch Dog' and critic for Athol Green co-op since 1999.
Ken is the Administrator for the Co-op Housing Information Exchange ("CHIE")
Ken supports Accountability in the Canadian non-profit co-operative housing sector.

In Ken's view, Stakeholders that include CHF Canada support less accountability for co-op's and board of directors and staff at it's member housing co-op's.

Ken has been harassed and threatened with eviction for being outspoken by co-op Project directors, officers and their lawyers.

Ken was banned for life on Jan. 16, 2006 from CHF Canada's 'co-op talk' on their website for being outspoken and sharing some of his True Life co-op housing Horror Stories. Ken is not welcome to join-in on any discussion about co-op housing issues on any social media sites administered through CHF Canada
Its part of Ken's DNA and built into Ken's name to be outspoken!...And thats what makes Ken a stand-up guy confronting nonsense in the co-op housing sector.

Ken helps put together all the pieces of the puzzle about the non-profit co-op housing sector in Canada, so you can gain a better perspective then understand...

James F. McDermott and Jo-Anne L. McDermott stand charged:


1. That they, between October 31, 1993 and December 31, 1996, at the Town of Whitby, and elsewhere in the Province of Ontario, unlawfully did by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means, defraud Marigold Co-operative Homes Inc., of a sum of money, of a value exceeding five thousand dollars,


CONTRARY to the provisions of section 380 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code


2. That he, James McDermott, between October 31, 1993 and December 31, 1996, at the Town of Pickering, in the Province of Ontario, unlawfully did steal $53,889.11, the property of Marigold Co-operative Homes Inc., of a value exceeding five thousand dollars.


CONTRARY to the provisions of section 334 (a) of the Criminal Code,


DATED at the Town of Whitby, this seventeenth day of September, A.D. 1999.

Some additional background information about James F. McDermott, Jo-Ann McDermott that is also in relationship to Lori M. Wheeler, General Manager and Coordinator, Athol Green Co-operative Homes Inc. based on a review of some Ontario Ministry of Government Services documents along with some other information: 

 

James F. McDermott was noted as a member, director or officer at Athol Green Co-op between November 30, 1097, and March 11, 1992. Mr. McDermott was noted as a person who since last notice had been but no longer an officer at the Co-op as at March 11, 1992. 

 

Jo-Anne McDermott was noted as a member, director or officer at Athol Green Co-op on or between October 1, 1986 and January 25, 1995 along with another notable Co-op member, Shirley McDermott that is allegedly the mother of James F. McDermott. 

 

Lori M. Wheeler was noted as a member at Athol Green Co-op from 1980 to 1989. Ms. Wheeler was employed as the General Manager/Coordinator at Athol Green Co-op from 1989 to 1992. 

 

Lori M. Wheeler was noted as one of two General Manager's between 1994 and 1996 at Northview Meadow Co-operative Homes Incorporated. James F. McDermott and Jo-Anne McDermott was noted as a director or officer between 1988 and 1996 at Northview Meadow housing co-op. Lori M. Wheeler is noted as the General Manager/Coordinator at Athol Green Co-op since September 8, 2000. 

 

In Ken Hummel's view, General Manager's/Coordinator's also known as Staff can have a strong influence on the ongoing governance and management of a Non-Profit Zero Equity Housing Co-operative that may be governed by Board of Director's with limited or no business management skills.
